MS 50 and the Billion Oyster Project

Billion Oyster Project is a New York City-based non-profit whose mission is to introduce one billion oysters into New York Harbor by 2035. As part of that mission, they have partnered with MS 50 students to grow, monitor, and measure oysters in Domino Park and right in MS 50 classrooms. We began this exciting partnership in Summer 2021 and have continued this partnership in every 6th grade classroom.

MS 50 is a place for all.

Middle School 50 has something for every student! Our curriculum is challenging and engaging for all students; from bilingual courses to universal Algebra and Living Environment Regents courses for all 8th grade students. We offer a wide variety of additional programs including active basketball, volleyball, baseball, and softball teams, a robust 3D printing program, a nationally competitive debate team, extensive band and visual art offerings, a musical theatre program, dance and step classes and so much more. Check out some of our favorite moments below!

Students raise their hands in class

“During lunch, a group of sixth-graders sprawled out on the school’s artificial turf, able to drop their masks temporarily as they ate and caught up with elementary school friends they hadn’t seen in months. “It feels nice to go back to socializing,” said a sixth-grader named Paul.

‘I can actually express myself.’”
