Student looks through microscope

We believe that all of our students are capable of reaching high learning goals and at MS 50 we prepare all of our students to take the Algebra and Living Environment Regents exams at the end of their 8th grade year. Preparation for these exams is embedded throughout our curriculum, starting in 6th grade so our students are prepared to succeed and get a head start on high school.

Students in our Spanish Dual Language Program are also given the chance to pass the Spanish Proficiency Exam, fulfilling their high school language requirement.

Regents for All

Individualized SHSAT Tutoring

MS 50 is excited to partner with Brooklyn Technical High School on our Spring SHSAT preparation program. Brooklyn Tech members of the Black Student Union and the Latino Student Union will serve as one on one and small group tutors to MS 50 students. Ms. Smith and Mr. Whitaker will partner with a teacher from Brooklyn Tech to supervise the program.

In Spring 2026, the program will meet at MS 50 on the following Tuesdays from 2:40 – 5:00PM: April 14 and 28; May 12, 19, and 26; and June 2.

One-To-One Attention

MS 50’s staff is made up of caring, knowledgeable individuals who consistently go above and beyond to give every student the individual attention they need and deserve. Combined with extensive tutoring options during ELT and the academic enrichment offered by our Community Schools partner El Puente Beacon, MS 50 students are well equipped to be engaged and inquisitive learners.

Innovative Learning

Classes at MS 50 are infused with unique and creative outlets with opportunities to explore new interests during and after school. Students learn that the equations they use in Algebra are not only numbers on a page, but can form stain glass windows which decorate the classroom and are the foundation of the 3D Designs they print after school. Our partnership with organizations like Urban Word and the Billion Oyster Project bring the ELA and science classrooms into the real world.

Spanish Dual-Language Program

Dual Language immersion is a unique educational program that builds student bilingualism and bi-literacy in English and in Spanish. Instruction is provided by highly trained and caring teachers. Students continue to learn standards-based content while they become fluent in two languages; linguistically and academically.

Students in our Dual Language program will be prepared to take Spanish Proficiency Exam and succeed academically in both English and Spanish. Learn more about the program and how to apply for the program on our Dual Language page.
